As a Yoga teacher I have observed that good postural use is rare. Yoga students and teachers alike often injure or strain their backs and joints through misunderstanding the mechanics of the body in movement. This lack of awareness urged me to set up yoga classes to bring the awareness of the value of postural alignment as taught by the Alexander Technique and to integrate this dynamic but relaxing movement strategy into yoga practice. We call this Postural Yoga.
Back pain and joint problems are often caused through muscular misuse. Yoga can help create flexibility and strength and using the Alexander Technique principles, correct mis-alignment, bringing the body back into a natural resting state of balance.
The class begins with gentle warm-ups , followed by asanas as demonstrated below. We conclude with a meditationto quieten the mind and retreat within the heart to access the qualities of peace and love
