The Doriel School of Dance is a family run dance school which has been based at Shrewsbury House since 1986 with staff consisting of:-
Four Dance Tutors
Some of the dance tutors have been with the school from the beginning and have qualified to teacher standard during this time.
The Doriel School of Dance, which concentrates its teaching around the BATD syllabus (covering a wide range of dance and including exams up to teacher level), welcomes students of all ages and abilities.
The informal atmosphere of the school encourages its members to enjoy learning within a disciplined and structured programme.
The school is proud to boast the achievements of its members.
Since opening over 25 ago there have been twelve pupils who have graduated to become fully qualified dance tutors and at least six of these have formed their own dance schools.
The school regularly participates in professionally organised auditions resulting in many students performing in ‘West End’ shows i.e. Starlight Express, Cats, 42nd Street, Oliver as well as TV appearances such as Family Affairs and Eastenders. One member has also qualified for entry into the White Lodge Ballet School.
When the Christmas season draws near the students are entered into pantomime auditions and to date the school has been successfully represented in local panto’s each year.
The extra activities have encouraged the students to cultivate an enthusiastic commitment to all dance programmes and this has resulted in the school having a well-deserved high reputation locally.
Several of our ‘old members’ have continued to pursue their interest in dance and, having qualified as teachers themselves while attending the Doriel School of Dance, have now opened their own dance schools and/or teach in local health clubs.
Fortunately over the years The Doriel School of Dance has developed, expanded and yet continued to maintain its family image. Our members have stayed in touch and we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their offspring to create the new generation of talent in our midst.
We look forward to the many happy years ahead.
The school is open on Wednesday (excluding school holidays) and the times of the lessons are as follows:-
Wednesday (Ballet Only)
4.00pm – 4.30pm Infants
4.30pm – 5.30pm Juniors
4.30pm – 6.30pm Senior grades
5.30pm – 6.30pm Primary grades
It is in the interest of the students that they should be appropriately prepared for their lesson in advance so that this time schedule is maintained and that the full benefit can be gained from the time allotted for each respective dance period.
